If you have been following me on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest (if you’re not, you should :-) ) you would know that I have an obsession with burgundy!

Burgundy is a beautiful, rich, warm and feminine colour. It’s also the professional gals option for pink in winter. In my mind this is the season it is most suited to as it is a colour that warms you even just by looking at it.

Ok… so you can see that I am a fan, but why am I so in love with burgundy? That is because I have found it to be one of the most versatile colours I have in my wardrobe. It also looks amazing on just about any skin colour from the English rose to my beautiful ethnic ladies and everything in between. So get in quick while this colour is in the shops – because you never know when it will be back in!

Here are my top tips on how to wear burgundy to work:

Never ending options

This colour is elegant, timeless and uber polished. Therefore it a great colour to wear for work. It is also one of the few colours I know of which goes with so many nuetrals. It can be worn with brown, navy, charcoal and black – so it covers all bases. It doesn’t matter what colour palette you are building in your wardrobe – burgundy will go with it.

Other colours that burgundy looks beautiful with is camel, pale pink, pale blue, lilac (believe it or not), as well as plum. Mix and match your burgundy with the other colours you have in your wardrobe and you will be amazed at what it goes with. Always remember when matching colours – if you are short – the more subtle the differences in your colours, the taller you will look. If you are tall go for broke – you can mix and match to your heart’s content. :-)

Colour blocking

I will never be able to stress this enough! When you are buying colour, any colour, remember to buy in colour packages.

For example if you were going to buy a burgundy waterfall cardigan or sweater – get a scarf which goes with it. Preferably one with some additional colours such as this Mimco scarf (one of favourites at the moment!). Then add any of your existing wardrobe items, such as pants and skirts to complete the looks. You could always add a bag to add the finishing touch to your outfit.

It’s all about how you wear it

When looking at my Pinterest board for this blog you will see that I have pinned lots of ideas on how to wear burgundy – from shoes to lipstick.

Always remember that wherever you place your colour, that is what the eye will be drawn to. If you have amazing legs – put your colour or pattern here (check out the pair of pants on my Pinterest board which are a print containing burgundy – JACKPOT!). If you are pear shaped (like me) you can bring the colour to your face by way of beautiful waterfall jackets or cardigans, and a beautiful scarf or faux fur stole! Fur always adds a little more texture to the situation – don’t you think? Anyone can wear burgundy but it is all about how you work it!

Always always remember your body shape and what you want people to see first. HINT – this should always be your face. :-)

Never fair an accessory is always here!

If you are slightly worried about bringing burgundy into your wardrobe start with some accessories such as a necklace, scarf, handbag or hat. You will soon see why this one of my favourite as it just goes with everything! Once you are comfortable with the colour you can add additional pieces from here to build the colour package into your wardrobe.

So now that I have sold you on how to wear burgundy – how are you going to wear this amazing colour? Let me know in the comments.
